YOUTH NOGI BJJ

WHAT IS KIDS & TEENS NOGI BJJ?

Kids & Teens NoGi BJJ is a grappling-based combat sport that teaches young people how to control, escape, defend and submit an opponent without striking. Unlike traditional Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, NoGi is practised without the jacket and belt, creating a faster paced style of grappling that transfers naturally into MMA.

Students learn takedowns, positional control, escapes, submissions and movement skills through structured coaching and supervised sparring. Classes are suitable for complete beginners as well as young athletes already training in MMA or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

At Praetorian MMA, NoGi BJJ forms an important part of our youth development programme and works alongside our Kids & Teens MMA classes, Gi BJJ classes, competitions and 1-to-1 coaching opportunities.

COMPETING IN BJJ

COMPETITION IS OPTIONAL

Not every child needs to compete. Many students train NoGi BJJ for confidence, discipline, fitness and enjoyment, and that is completely fine.

For students who do want to test themselves, competition can be a brilliant way to build confidence under pressure, set goals and experience the reward of hard work.

Coaches will guide students through preparation, suitable events and what to expect on the day. If you are looking to register for BJJ competitions, our Smoothcomp guide explains the process.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

NoGi BJJ is taught in a structured and supervised way. Students learn how to move, control positions, escape safely and understand when to stop. The aim is not chaos or rough play, it is controlled grappling with clear coaching standards.

That is completely normal. Some children need time to settle before they feel comfortable joining in fully. Coaches will guide them at a sensible pace. If your child is shy, this article may help: My Child Is Shy.
