MORE THAN COMBAT SPORTS
WHY PARENTS CHOOSE
MMA FOR THEIR CHILDREN
Kids and Teens MMA at Praetorian MMA is about far more than punches, kicks and takedowns. Every session is designed to help young people develop confidence, discipline, resilience and respect while learning practical skills in a safe and structured environment.
Through a combination of striking, grappling, wrestling and movement-based training, students learn how to work with others, overcome challenges and build self-belief. Many parents also notice improvements in focus, communication, fitness and overall attitude both at home and in school.

WHY TRAIN KIDS & TEENS MMA?
FUN FOR BEGINNERS.
DEVELOPMENT FOR LIFE.
COMPLETE SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Young members learn striking, wrestling, grappling, movement and coordination within one programme. Instead of learning isolated skills, they develop a broader understanding of combat sports while improving balance, agility and body awareness.
CONFIDENCE & RESILIENCE
MMA teaches young people how to overcome challenges, stay calm under pressure and keep working when things become difficult. These lessons often carry over into school, friendships and everyday life.
SAFE & STRUCTURED
Classes are coached with age-appropriate drills, clear progression and close supervision. Students are challenged while learning in a positive environment that prioritises safety, respect and personal development.
FRIENDSHIP & TEAMWORK
Training alongside others helps students build social confidence and develop friendships with people who share similar goals. Teamwork, encouragement and mutual respect are part of every session.
MORE WAYS TO TRAIN
Students can expand their skills through our Kids & Teens Gi BJJ, Kids & Teens NoGi BJJ and Open Mats to gain additional mat time and experience.
PATHWAY FOR THE FUTURE
Some students train for fun, fitness and confidence. Others may eventually progress into advanced training, competition or our adult classes. The programme provides a clear pathway whichever direction they choose.

Striking, grappling and roundsKIDS & TEENS MMA QUESTIONS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can my child start MMA with no experience?
Yes. Most young members start with no combat sports experience. Classes are structured to help beginners build confidence, coordination, fitness and practical skills safely over time.
What age can children start?
We usually recommend children start from around age 6 and school Year 3. Younger children may be able to attend if a parent joins in to support them and help them adapt to the class environment.
Is Kids & Teens MMA safe?
Yes. Classes are coached with age-appropriate drills, controlled contact, clear structure and close supervision. The focus is on learning, confidence, movement and development rather than uncontrolled sparring.
Do they need to be fit before starting?
No. MMA helps children and teens improve fitness, coordination, balance and confidence over time. They do not need to be fit before they start; they just need to be willing to try.
What equipment do they need?
For the first session, comfortable sports clothing is enough. Members on the Kids & Teens MMA Pathway can start with the correct kit, including rashguard, shorts, MMA gloves and gumshield.
Can they train MMA and BJJ together?
Yes. Many young members train MMA alongside Kids & Teens Gi BJJ and Kids & Teens NoGi BJJ to build more complete skills.
Is this suitable for shy children?
Yes. Many shy children do well in structured classes because they are given routine, encouragement and time to build confidence at their own pace. You can also read our parent guide for shy children.
Will they have to spar?
No. Sparring is never forced. Young members develop through technical drills, movement games, controlled partner work and coach-led progression before any contact is increased.
How often should they train?
Many children begin with one or two sessions per week before increasing attendance as confidence and routine improve. The wider youth timetable gives families flexibility across MMA, Gi BJJ and NoGi BJJ.
Can teens progress into adult classes?
Yes. Teens can progress towards adult classes when they are old enough and ready. Some younger members may be invited into adult sessions earlier with coach approval based on maturity, behaviour and training standards.
Can they try a class first?
Yes. Families can start with a 7-day free trial before choosing the best pathway. This gives children and teens time to experience the classes, meet the coaches and get comfortable in the gym.
Is parking available?
Yes. Parking is available close to the gym, making it easy for families travelling from Fareham, Gosport and the surrounding area.
