MIXED MARTIAL ARTS IN FAREHAM & GOSPORT
MMA
STRIKING. WRESTLING.
GRAPPLING. CAGE WORK.
MMA combines the most effective elements of combat sports into one complete training system. Learn how to strike, wrestle, grapple and control opponents through structured coaching designed for complete beginners, experienced martial artists and aspiring competitors alike. Whether your goal is fitness, confidence, self-development or competition, you'll find a supportive team environment and a clear pathway for progression at Praetorian MMA.

COMPLETE MMA TRAINING
WHAT IS MMA?
MMA combines multiple combat disciplines into one complete training system. Rather than specialising in a single area, students learn how striking, wrestling, grappling and cage work connect together. This creates well-rounded athletes, develops real-world skill and gives members the opportunity to experience every aspect of modern mixed martial arts training.

STRIKING
Learn punches, kicks, knees, elbows, movement, timing and distance management whilst understanding how striking changes when takedowns and grappling are also a possibility.

WRESTLING
Develop takedowns, takedown defence, balance, pressure and positional control so you can dictate where an exchange takes place and maintain control when it matters.

GRAPPLING
Build confidence on the ground through submissions, escapes, guard work, positional control and the ability to remain calm when training under pressure.

CAGE WORK
Understand clinch fighting, wall wrestling, pressure, transitions and the tactical elements that help transform separate skills into complete MMA performance.
WHY TRAIN MMA WITH US?
BUILT FOR BEGINNERS.
READY FOR COMPETITORS.
COMPLETE TRAINING
MMA at Praetorian brings striking, wrestling, grappling and cage work together instead of treating them as separate skills. You learn how each area connects so your training becomes more realistic, practical and complete.
BEGINNER FRIENDLY
You do not need previous experience to start. Classes are coached with structure, control and progression so new members can build confidence safely while learning the fundamentals properly from the beginning.
REAL COACHING
Our coaching team brings experience across MMA, BJJ, striking, competition and youth development. You are not left to figure it out alone; you are coached, corrected and guided as your ability improves.
TEAM CULTURE
Praetorian MMA is built around standards, support and consistency. You will train alongside members who work hard, help each other improve and create an environment where beginners and experienced athletes can progress together.
MORE WAYS TO TRAIN
MMA members can develop faster by using related classes such as MMA Striking, NoGi BJJ and Open Mats to sharpen specific areas of their game.
COMPETITION PATHWAY
Not everyone wants to compete, but those who do can be supported through a clear development pathway. We help members build the skills, discipline, confidence and standards needed before stepping into competition.

REORG
INCLUDED.
NOT EXCLUDED.
REORG support is usually centred around Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but at Praetorian MMA we do not want REORG members to feel separated from the wider club. MMA is part of our training environment, our team culture and the way many members build confidence, routine and connection.
While MMA may not form part of the funded REORG pathway itself, eligible REORG members are still welcome within the wider Praetorian MMA community. We will help guide you towards the most suitable classes, support your progression and make sure you feel part of the team.

Whether you are here for BJJ, MMA, routine or just to feel part of something again, you are welcome here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I start MMA with no experience?
Yes. Most members start with no martial arts or combat sports experience. Classes are structured to help beginners build skills safely and progressively while training alongside more experienced members.
What equipment do I need to start?
For your first few sessions, comfortable training clothes are enough. As you continue training, we recommend a gumshield, gloves and other equipment which can be purchased through the Praetorian MMA Shop.
Do I need to be fit before I start?
No. MMA helps improve fitness, mobility and conditioning over time. Many people begin because they want to get fitter rather than because they already are.
What age can adults train MMA?
Adult MMA classes are generally aimed at members aged 16 and above. Younger members may occasionally be invited into adult sessions with coach approval based on maturity and experience.
Do I have to spar?
No. Sparring is never forced. Members can focus on technical development, drilling and controlled training. Sparring is introduced appropriately and only when members are ready.
Can I train MMA and NoGi BJJ together?
Absolutely. Many MMA members also attend NoGi BJJ classes to improve wrestling, positional control, submissions and overall grappling ability.
Can I also train MMA Striking?
Yes. MMA Striking classes run alongside the main MMA programme and focus on footwork, movement, boxing, kicking, defence and stand-up development.
How often should I train?
Most new members begin with one or two sessions per week before increasing attendance as their confidence, fitness and recovery improve.
Can I compete in MMA?
Yes. For members who want to compete, our coaches can help guide you through the process. Competition is never required, but opportunities are available for those who train consistently and demonstrate readiness.
What should I bring to my first class?
Comfortable training clothes and a positive attitude. Free bottled water is included for members and trial participants at Praetorian MMA.
Is there parking available?
Yes. Parking is available close to the gym, making it easy to access classes whether you are travelling from Fareham, Gosport or the surrounding area.
Do you offer pay as you go training?
Yes. Pay as you go options are available. However, members who train regularly often find unlimited membership offers the best value.
